The clause decides on age limits
Plans with prevention according to statutory programs take over the age limits of the statutory health insurance fund. Only the addition also beyond the statutory programs makes cancer screening independent of age.

| Prostate cancer screening | every year from the mid-forties | regardless of age, on medical advice |
Early detection checkups are outpatient services billed under the medical fee schedule, and you do not need approval before the appointment. Under the plan, there are two routes. Plans linked to the statutory programs reimburse the checkups of the statutory catalogs, including their age limits. Plans with an open prevention clause reimburse regardless of age and often include extended methods, for example additional ultrasound diagnostics or extended lab profiles.
A special case is diagnostics when there is a specific suspicion or a family history. This is not prevention in the sense of the plan, but diagnostics within medical treatment. It can therefore be reimbursed in every plan if the doctor's justification is in place. In stricter plans, this distinction decides whether you are reimbursed.
From more than 5,000 applications with health questions, we see the connection from two directions. Documented prevention without abnormal findings strengthens any later risk assessment, and findings detected early change lives. We recommend that you compare the preventive part of a plan as seriously as dentures or optional hospital services. In a claim, it is the most valuable component.
In the plan comparison, the wording on the statutory programs should be checked closely, together with the question of whether extended methods are included. The difference costs little in premium and shows exactly when it matters.
If there is a specific family history and a doctor orders it, many plans reimburse genetic counseling including the test as diagnostics within medical treatment. No plan reimburses pure lifestyle genetic tests without a medical reason.
Methods such as an additional ovarian ultrasound or extended tumor marker profiles are not part of the statutory program. In private health insurance, their reimbursement depends on the plan clause and the doctor's justification. There is no general no.
Not in your existing contract. The insurer can neither cancel the contract nor raise your premium individually, and new illnesses are insured. A finding only matters for future applications, for example for additional components or a switch to another insurer.
Early detection for children runs through the U checkups and is standard in plans for children. Specific cancer screening only plays a role for children when there is a concrete medical reason, and it is then diagnostics within medical treatment.

From the age of 55, admission to private health insurance is often possible only with restrictions. A late switch can also mean higher premiums.
It matters to us that a switch pays off for you in the long run. That is why we do not recommend a consultation when your answers already show that the conditions are rather unfavorable.
