Common questions about premium relief

How is a premium relief plan different from a regular investment?
The premium relief plan is part of your health insurance contract. The capital you build up is earmarked. From the start of your pension it lowers your premium instead of being paid out. In return it gets tax advantages, and your employer pays a share of it under § 257 SGB V, just like the rest of your health insurance premium.
Why does the savings amount get much more expensive if I start later?
The shorter the savings period, the fewer years interest and compound interest work for you. To reach the same relief, you have to raise the missing capital in fewer months. Starting at 40 instead of 45 often cuts the monthly amount you need by a third.
Is a premium relief plan still worth it shortly before retirement?
With only a few years left until retirement, the effect is small. There is hardly any time left for interest, and the monthly amount you need gets high. In this situation an internal plan change under § 204 VVG is often the more effective lever. We are happy to work through the exact comparison with you.
