Keep calm
Stay calm after the notice. An increase does not mean that your plan is bad. Take your time to look at what amount you will pay and what cover you get for it.

From the age of 55, admission to private health insurance is often possible only with restrictions. A late switch can also mean higher premiums.
It matters to us that a switch pays off for you in the long run. That is why we do not recommend a consultation when your answers already show that the conditions are rather unfavorable.

DKV is one of the large private health insurers in Germany. Its focus is on full cover and supplementary insurance with a wide range. The following figures put the financial position into context, each compared with the insurer's own ten-year average and the industry average (as of 2024).
Below the industry average of 20.9 percent: a smaller safety cushion, to be considered in the overall picture.
Below the industry average of 2.8 per 100,000: few complaints, high satisfaction.
Below the industry average of 37.4 percent: a comparatively narrow buffer for future adjustments.
| Indicator | DKV 2024 | 10-year average | Industry average |
|---|---|---|---|
| RfB ratio | 23.6% | 30.1% | 37.4% |
| RfB allocation ratio | 5.5% | 10.1% | 10.5% |
| Equity ratio | 8.7% | 9.5% | 20.9% |
| Net interest yield | 3.0% | 3.0% | 2.8% |
| Administrative cost ratio | 2.7% | 2.8% | 2.9% |
| Claims ratio | 84.6% | 76.6% | 75.1% |
| Acquisition cost ratio | 5.6% | 5.4% | 8.0% |
| Complaints ratio (per 100,000) | 1.7 | 2.4 | 2.8 |
DKV is financially sound. Low administrative costs, an above-average net interest yield and a low complaints ratio speak for stable premiums. A point to note is a provision for premium refunds below the industry average. DKV belongs to the ERGO Group and thus to Munich Re, which gives it a clear place in the market.
Your ageing reserves are kept in full with an internal change under § 204 VVG. Only a switch to another insurer means that the calculated reserves are lost.
An adjustment is only permitted under the conditions of § 203 VVG. It requires a lasting change in benefit expenditure or mortality rates and must be reviewed and approved by an independent trustee.
A fixed deadline applies above all to the special right of termination under § 205 (4) VVG, namely two months after receipt of the notice. You can approach the internal change under § 204 VVG with more flexibility in timing.
