From the age of 55, admission to private health insurance is often possible only with restrictions. A late switch can also mean higher premiums.
It matters to us that a switch pays off for you in the long run. That is why we do not recommend a consultation when your answers already show that the conditions are rather unfavorable.

Hallesche is an established private health insurer based in Stuttgart. Its focus is on full cover and supplementary insurance. The following figures put the financial position into context, each compared with the insurer's own ten-year average and the industry average (as of 2024).
Above the industry average of 2.8 per 100,000: more complaints than the market average.
Below the industry average of 37.4 percent: a comparatively narrow buffer for future adjustments.
Above the industry average of 20.9 percent: a solid safety cushion.
| Indicator | Hallesche 2024 | 10-year average | Industry average |
|---|---|---|---|
| RfB ratio | 22.9% | 37.4% | 37.4% |
| RfB allocation ratio | 10.4% | 12.1% | 10.5% |
| Equity ratio | 27.7% | 29.3% | 20.9% |
| Net interest yield | 2.8% | 2.9% | 2.8% |
| Administrative cost ratio | 2.6% | 2.6% | 2.9% |
| Claims ratio | 76.1% | 75.0% | 75.1% |
| Acquisition cost ratio | 11.2% | 8.9% | 8.0% |
| Complaints ratio (per 100,000) | 4.6 | 4.9 | 2.8 |
Hallesche shows an uneven picture compared with the industry. Low administrative costs speak for stable premiums. Points to note are a provision for premium refunds below the industry average and an increased complaints ratio. Hallesche belongs to the ALH Group, which gives it a clear place in the market.
Your ageing reserves are kept in full with an internal change under § 204 VVG. Only a switch to another insurer means that the calculated reserves are lost.
An adjustment is only permitted under the conditions of § 203 VVG. It requires a lasting change in benefit expenditure or mortality rates and must be reviewed and approved by an independent trustee.
A fixed deadline applies above all to the special right of termination under § 205 (4) VVG, namely two months after receipt of the notice. You can approach the internal change under § 204 VVG with more flexibility in timing.
