Premium increase at HUK-Coburg: what now?

Exclusive tips from our experts on how to handle your premium adjustment.

01

Keep calm

Stay calm after the notice. An increase does not mean that your plan is bad. Take your time to look at what amount you will pay and what cover you get for it.

02

Analyze the adjustment letter

Read the notice closely. The date of receipt, the new premium and the reason decide which options are open to you and how much time you have.

03

Plan change instead of a rash decision

Before you think about switching to another insurer, check whether a plan change under § 204 VVG within HUK-Coburg makes sense. HUK-Coburg offers price-focused plans that can be an alternative. This is often the simpler way to a lower premium without setting up your cover completely from scratch.

04

The overall picture counts

A lower premium sounds attractive, but it can come with noticeable cuts in benefits. What matters is not the price alone but whether the plan fits your needs in the long term.

05

Use advice with private health insurance experience

With premium questions in particular, an independent assessment is worth it. We know the plan range of HUK-Coburg and show you which options really fit your situation, without losing your ageing reserves.

How to read the financial position

HUK-Coburg shows an uneven picture compared with the industry. Low administrative costs speak for stable premiums. Points to note are a provision for premium refunds below the industry average, a net interest yield below market level and an increased complaints ratio. HUK-Coburg is known as a cost-focused direct insurer, which gives it a clear place in the market.

Frequently asked questions

Will I lose my ageing reserves if I change plan?

No. With an internal change under § 204 VVG, your ageing reserves are kept in full. Only when you switch to another insurer are the calculated reserves lost.

May HUK-Coburg simply increase my premium?

The legal basis is § 203 VVG. An increase is only allowed if the calculated benefit expenditure or mortality rates have changed permanently, and it must be approved by an independent trustee.

Is there a deadline I need to keep?

You can start the plan change under § 204 VVG at any time. For the special right of termination under § 205 (4) VVG, however, you only have two months from receipt of the notice. If you check early, you keep all options open.
