Keep calm
Stay calm after the notice. An increase does not mean that your plan is bad. Take your time to look at what amount you will pay and what cover you get for it.

From the age of 55, admission to private health insurance is often possible only with restrictions. A late switch can also mean higher premiums.

R+V is an insurer with cooperative roots. Its focus is on full cover and supplementary insurance through cooperative sales channels. The following figures put the financial position into context, each compared with the insurer's own ten-year average and the industry average (as of 2024).
Below the industry average of 2.8 per 100,000: few complaints, high satisfaction.
Above the industry average of 37.4 percent: an above-average buffer for future adjustments.
Below the industry average of 2.9 percent: a lean, efficient cost structure.
| Indicator | R+V 2024 | 10-year average | Industry average |
|---|---|---|---|
| RfB ratio | 51.1% | 54.0% | 37.4% |
| RfB allocation ratio | 8.8% | 14.9% | 10.5% |
| Equity ratio | 16.2% | 16.3% | 20.9% |
| Net interest yield | 2.4% | 2.8% | 2.8% |
| Administrative cost ratio | 2.1% | 1.8% | 2.9% |
| Claims ratio | 79.1% | 72.9% | 75.1% |
| Acquisition cost ratio | 7.9% | 8.1% | 8.0% |
| Complaints ratio (per 100,000) | 0.4 | 0.6 | 2.8 |
R+V is financially sound. An above-average provision for premium refunds, low administrative costs and a low complaints ratio speak for stable premiums. A point to note is a net interest yield below market level. R+V has cooperative roots and is represented through the Volksbanken network, which gives it a clear place in the market.
With a plan change within R+V under § 204 VVG, the reserves are kept. You only lose them if you change company.
The premium may not rise arbitrarily. § 203 VVG only allows an adjustment if benefit expenditure or mortality rates have changed permanently. In addition, an independent trustee reviews every increase.
There is no fixed deadline for an internal plan change under § 204 VVG. If you want to use the special right of termination under § 205 (4) VVG, a deadline of two months after receipt of the notice applies. An early review gives you the most room to act.
