Strong SDK combination for employees with a single room, reimbursement above the maximum rates of the fee schedules and remedies without a cap under the allowance regulation for civil servants.
Data as ofJuly 2026, source: plan terms and our advisory practice
Why this plan is in our selection
The SDK combination of AM10, S1 and Z9 is in our selection for employees because it combines a high benefit level with a reliable reimbursement practice. The three modules cover the three areas of benefits: AM10 outpatient care without any deductible, S1 inpatient care with a single room and private doctor, Z9 dental care. For dentures Z9 pays 90 percent, while dental treatment and inlays are covered at 100 percent. We rate benefit coverage at 9 out of 10 points, and claims handling also at 9 out of 10. We rate SDK's premium history as more stable than average at 8 out of 10 points. At 3 out of 10 points, the starting premium is among the higher ones on the market, and that is the honest downside of these strong benefits. Particularly worth highlighting are the simplified right to choose a plan, which allows you to change the deductible without a new risk assessment, and the reimbursement of remedies without a cap under the federal allowance regulation for civil servants. If you value substance over a teaser price, you will find one of the stronger combinations of our plan analysis here.
01
Simplified right to choose a plan
The combination includes a guaranteed right to change the deductible for outpatient care without a new risk assessment. In addition, there is an option right for higher-level cover within the plan line that is tied to fixed life events, for example reaching age 30, 35, 40, 45 or 50, a change in professional status or an increase in income of at least 20 percent.
02
Strong in the plan for children
For plans for children, SDK is one of the providers with strong value for money. Children can also be insured alone if one parent has full cover with another insurer, and they receive the same no-claims refund and the same substitute daily hospital allowance as adults.
03
Remedies without a Beihilfe cap
Physiotherapy, massages, speech therapy, occupational therapy and other remedies are reimbursed without being tied to the maximum amounts of the federal allowance regulation for civil servants. This removes a limit at which many basic plans cap reimbursement.

No plan is the right choice for everyone. This is what speaks for this combination, and this is what you should know.

What you should know
!
The premium is at the upper end of the market (premium level 3 out of 10). If price is your main criterion, you will find leaner combinations.
!
Dentures, implants and orthodontics are reimbursed at 90 percent, not at 100 percent. Only dental treatment and inlays are covered in full.
!
The dental benefit limits cap dentures and orthodontics in the first four years at €2,700 to €6,750. If you plan larger dental work soon, you should plan for this.
!
Krankentagegeld is not included and must be added separately for employees.
!
A strong plan only pays off if your application is accepted cleanly. If you have pre-existing conditions, we recommend an anonymous risk enquiry before you apply.
Who this plan suits
The combination suits employees above the JAEG who put benefits before price and want high cover for outpatient, inpatient and dental care. Because children can be insured alone and receive the same benefits, it is also one of the stronger options in our selection for families.
It is less suitable if the monthly premium is the deciding criterion or if you only want basic cover at the level of statutory health insurance. If you insist on 100 percent for dentures, you should also know about the 90 percent limit of the dental module.
Premium development at SDK: A plan is only as good as its calculation. We show the adjustments of past years transparently by year and plan.
Why does the cover consist of the three modules AM10, S1 and Z9?
⌄
AM10 covers outpatient care without a deductible, S1 inpatient care with a single room and private doctor, Z9 dental care with 90 percent for dentures. This split makes the cover flexible, because individual modules can be adjusted using the right to change plan.
Does my employer contribute to this plan?
⌄
Yes. As a privately insured employee you receive the employer contribution of half your premium, up to the statutory maximum. It applies no matter which plan you choose.
Can I adjust the plan later?
⌄
Yes. Within SDK you can switch to similar plans using the right to change plan under § 204 VVG, and you keep your ageing reserves. In addition, the combination includes a simplified right to change the deductible for outpatient care without a new risk assessment.
What happens if premiums rise?
⌄
Premium adjustments are part of how private health insurance works. What matters is their long-term size. You can find SDK's specific adjustments by year and plan in our overview of premium adjustments. If an increase is large, we check plan optimization with you.
How is our rating calculated?
⌄
The five key figures come from our ongoing plan analysis. They are based on the plan terms, the published premium histories and our experience with claims handling. The rating is our professional assessment, not a ranking by a testing institute.

Switching to private health insurance is probably not advisable for you.
From the age of 55, admission to private health insurance is often possible only with restrictions. A late switch can also mean higher premiums.
It matters to us that a switch pays off for you in the long run. That is why we do not recommend a consultation when your answers already show that the conditions are rather unfavorable.
