Why this plan is in our selection
The SDK combination of AM10, S1 and Z9 is in our selection for children because it combines a high benefit level with very accommodating claims handling. For families this means strong all-round cover without a deductible: a single room in hospital, private clinics without a cap on fees, remedies without the limit of the federal allowance regulation for civil servants and psychotherapy without a limit on sessions. For scope of benefits and claims handling we give 9 out of 10 points each. The outpatient plan AM10 includes a simplified right to change plan, which lets you adjust the plan level without new health questions. We rate the premium history at 8 out of 10 and the starting premium at 7 out of 10 points. If you deliberately put benefits and quality of claims handling first for your child, you will find a very strong option in this combination.

The dental module Z9 reimburses dental treatment at 100 percent, dentures and orthodontics at 90 percent, implants including bone grafting. Inlays and onlays are fully covered, and for adults the dental benefit limits can later be lifted through a findings report.

Strengths and limits
No plan is the right choice for everyone. This is what speaks for this combination, and this is what you should know.
What speaks for it
✓
A high benefit level and accommodating claims handling with 9 out of 10 points each, and this shows in a serious case.
✓
Single room and private clinics without the limit of the fee schedule, plus remedies without the Beihilfe limit.
✓
Simplified right to change plan to another plan level without new health questions.
✓
Strong dental benefits through the module Z9 and outpatient psychotherapy without a session limit.
What you should know
!
Insuring a child alone requires at least one parent to have full cover with another insurer. This does not suit every family situation and should be clarified in advance.
!
The dental benefit limits cap dentures and orthodontics up to the fourth year. If you plan major treatment early, you should factor this in.
!
The health cure benefit is limited to €2,000 per three years, and the inpatient module does not pay for an inpatient health cure.
!
We see the starting premium at 7 out of 10 points. The plan is not the cheapest in our selection.
Who this plan suits
The combination suits families who want to give their child a high benefit level with very accommodating claims handling and who value flexibility through the simplified right to change plan. Insuring the child alone requires a parent with full cover at another insurer.
The combination fits less well if the lowest premium is decisive or if no parent has full cover with another insurer. For these cases we show better alternatives from our comparison in our advice.
Premium development at SDK: A plan is only as good as its calculation. We show the adjustments of past years transparently by year and plan.
Under what condition can my child be insured alone?
⌄
SDK insures a child alone if at least one parent has full cover with another insurer. If this is not the case, the Kindernachversicherung through a parent insured with SDK is the usual route. We clarify this together before the application.
What does the simplified right to change plan mean?
⌄
The outpatient plan AM10 allows a guaranteed switch to a plan level with a deductible without new health questions. For a switch to a higher benefit level, the statutory right to change plan under § 204 VVG also applies.
Does my child need a deductible?
⌄
No. The combination works without a deductible. The outpatient module AM10 has no share of your own, so preventive care and treatment are reimbursed without a billing hurdle.
What happens to the premium when my child gets older?
⌄
The premium rises with the technical entry age. If an adjustment is large, we check plan optimization together, and you can find the specific premium adjustments at SDK in our overview.
How is our rating calculated?
⌄
The five key figures come from our ongoing plan analysis. They are based on the plan terms, the published premium histories and our experience with claims handling. The rating is our professional assessment, not a ranking by a testing institute.

Switching to private health insurance is probably not advisable for you.
From the age of 55, admission to private health insurance is often possible only with restrictions. A late switch can also mean higher premiums.
It matters to us that a switch pays off for you in the long run. That is why we do not recommend a consultation when your answers already show that the conditions are rather unfavorable.
