Why this plan is in our selection
The Signal Iduna Komfort-SI is in our selection for the self-employed because it combines a high benefit level with quick reimbursement and a well-designed rule for preventive care. We rate claims handling at 9 out of 10 points, and benefit coverage and family friendliness at 8 out of 10 points each. The plan relies on free choice of doctor without a primary doctor principle, a single or two-bed room and private doctor in hospital, and strong dental cover up to 85 percent. This is balanced by a deductible of €500 a year on outpatient and inpatient benefits. The special feature is in the detail: preventive care, vaccinations, prophylaxis and professional teeth cleaning up to €750 a year are not affected by the deductible or the refund. We rate premium stability at 6 out of 10 points and premium level at 5 out of 10 points, so the premium is above the market average.

Switching to private health insurance is probably not advisable for you.
From the age of 55, admission to private health insurance is often possible only with restrictions. A late switch can also mean higher premiums.
It matters to us that a switch pays off for you in the long run. That is why we do not recommend a consultation when your answers already show that the conditions are rather unfavorable.
