Why this plan is in our selection
The LKH GUK500 is in our selection for the self-employed because it combines a high benefit level with fast reimbursement and a strong refund. We rate benefit coverage at 9 out of 10 points and claims handling also at 9 out of 10 points. The plan relies on free choice of doctor without a primary doctor principle, a two-bed room and private doctor in hospital and broad outpatient cover up to alternative practitioners. This is balanced by a fixed deductible of €500 a year on outpatient, inpatient and dental benefits. We rate the premium level at 6 out of 10 points, in the middle range, and premium stability at 7 out of 10 points, above average. The refund is particularly striking. New policyholders receive the high performance-based payment already in the first year.
01
High benefit level
The plan offers free choice of doctor without a primary doctor principle, a two-bed room and private doctor treatment in hospital with the GOÄ also above the maximum rates, and broad outpatient cover including alternative practitioners at 100 percent up to €1,000 a year. We rate benefit coverage at 9 out of 10 points.
02
High refund from the start of the contract
The performance-based no-claims refund reaches four monthly premiums after three claim-free years. The special feature is that new policyholders already receive these four monthly premiums for the first year. There is also a guaranteed lump-sum payment that can also be used as a premium deferral.
03
Free choice with a fixed deductible
Instead of steering through a family doctor, the plan relies on free choice of doctor and balances this with a fixed deductible of €500 a year. The deductible can be changed on fixed dates through an option right.

What you should know
!
The plan works with a fixed deductible of €500 a year on outpatient, inpatient and dental benefits.

A strong plan only pays off if your application is accepted cleanly. If you have pre-existing conditions, we recommend an anonymous risk enquiry before you apply.
Who this plan suits
The GUK500 suits the self-employed and freelancers who want a high benefit level with free choice of doctor, accept a fixed deductible and value a strong refund that already applies in the first year.
It is less suitable if you expect dentures at 100 percent, comprehensive cover outside Europe or a particularly low starting premium. For these cases we show you better alternatives from our comparison in our advice.
Premium development at LKH: A plan is only as good as its calculation. We show the adjustments of past years transparently by year and plan.
Why is the no-claims refund already interesting in the first year?
⌄
The performance-based refund reaches four monthly premiums after three claim-free years. New policyholders already receive these four monthly premiums for the first claim-free year. There is also a guaranteed lump-sum payment of up to €300 that can also be used as a premium deferral. In each case, the condition is that you make no claims in the entire plan.
Can I deduct my premiums from tax as a self-employed person?
⌄
You can claim the basic share of your premium, meaning cover at the level of statutory basic care, as pension and insurance expenses for tax purposes. We explain the details and maximum amounts under deducting private health insurance from tax.
Can I adjust the plan later?
⌄
Within LKH you can switch to similar plans using the right to change plan under § 204 VVG, and you keep your ageing reserves. There is also an option right within the GesundheitsUpgrade line and the option to change the deductible.
What happens if premiums rise?
⌄
Premium adjustments are part of how private health insurance works. What matters is their long-term size. You can find LKH's specific adjustments by year and plan in our overview of premium adjustments. If an increase is large, we check plan optimization with you.
How is our rating calculated?

The five key figures come from our ongoing plan analysis. They are based on the plan terms, the published premium histories and our experience with claims handling from advisory practice. The rating is our professional assessment, not a ranking by a testing institute.

Switching to private health insurance is probably not advisable for you.
From the age of 55, admission to private health insurance is often possible only with restrictions. A late switch can also mean higher premiums.
It matters to us that a switch pays off for you in the long run. That is why we do not recommend a consultation when your answers already show that the conditions are rather unfavorable.
