Why this plan is in our selection
The ARAG ME0 is in our selection for children because it bundles solid all-round private cover in a single module and does without a deductible. For families this is pleasantly simple: outpatient treatment, hospital and dental care are in one plan, there is no share of your own and no primary doctor principle. The plan is strong on preventive care and vaccinations. Vaccinations are reimbursed without being limited to the statutory programs, including travel vaccinations, and dental prophylaxis does not count against the no-claims refund. We rate ARAG's premium history at 8 out of 10 points, and the starting premium is in the low range of our selection. For claims handling we see 6 out of 10 points, because ARAG checks more closely than other companies. If you want uncomplicated, affordable private cover for your child and want to keep the option of a higher benefit level open, the ME0 is a convincing basis.
01
Preventive care and vaccinations without compromise
Vaccinations are reimbursed without being limited to the statutory programs, explicitly also as travel vaccinations. Preventive checkups are covered without age limits and fixed intervals, and preventive care, vaccinations and professional teeth cleaning do not reduce the no-claims refund.
02
One plan instead of a modular kit
The ME0 covers outpatient care, hospital stays and dental benefits in one module, without any deductible. This makes cover for children clear and claims simple, because there is no share of your own to settle.
03
Options for the future built in
On January 1 of the sixth year of insurance there is an option right for higher-level cover. In addition, the deductible can be adjusted within the product line at any time without new health questions, and a return to the original cover after parental leave is guaranteed.

Performance-based refund
2 monthly premiums after a claim-free year, children receive the same refund

As a pure plan for children, the ME0 includes no KrankentagegeldKrankentagegeldPrivate sick pay: a daily allowance from private insurance while you are unable to work. It replaces lost income from an agreed day of illness.More about Krankentagegeld →, and for children that is the right design. When moving into adulthood the premium rises according to the technical entry age, and we plan for this in our advice.

✓
Vaccinations not limited to statutory programs, explicitly including travel vaccinations, plus preventive care without age limits.
✓
Low starting premium and a premium history more reliable than average at 8 out of 10 points.

What you should know
!
Dentures, implants and orthodontics are reimbursed at 80 percent, not in full. If you want the maximum for teeth, you will find higher rates in our selection.
!
The dental benefit limits cap dental benefits in the first three years at 1,000 to €3,000. If larger treatment is due early, you should plan for it.
!
For claims handling we see 6 out of 10 points. ARAG checks more closely than some companies, especially for alternative practitioner and medical aid bills.
!
Alternative practitioner benefits are limited to €1,000 per year, which is solid but not a top value.
Who this plan suits
The ME0 suits families who want to give their child affordable and clear private cover without working through a modular kit of several plans. If you value extensive preventive care and vaccinations and want to keep the door open to a higher benefit level, you are in good hands here.
The plan fits less well if the highest dental and benefit level is needed from the start or if particularly accommodating claims handling is the priority. For these cases we show stronger alternatives from our comparison in our advice.
Premium development at ARAG: A plan is only as good as its calculation. We show the adjustments of past years transparently by year and plan.
From when can my child be insured alone with the ME0?
⌄
Children can be insured alone from the age of 36 months if the required children's checkups are documented. Directly after birth, cover usually runs through the Kindernachversicherung of a privately insured parent, without any health questions.
Why does a plan for children have no deductible when a plan for adults often does?
⌄
The ME0 does completely without a deductible. For children a share of your own rarely pays off, because the premiums are low anyway. What matters more is that preventive care and treatment are reimbursed without billing hurdles.
Can the plan be adjusted to a higher benefit level later?
⌄
Yes. On January 1 of the sixth year of insurance there is an option right for higher-level cover. Regardless of this, the statutory right to change plan under § 204 VVG applies, and the ageing reserves are kept.
What happens to the premium when my child gets older?
⌄
The premium rises with the technical entry age, for example in the teenage years and in young adulthood. This is common in private health insurance. If an adjustment is large, we check plan optimization together, and you can find the specific premium adjustments at ARAG in our overview.
How is our rating calculated?
⌄
The five key figures come from our ongoing plan analysis. They are based on the plan terms, the published premium histories and our experience with claims handling. The rating is our professional assessment, not a ranking by a testing institute.

Switching to private health insurance is probably not advisable for you.
From the age of 55, admission to private health insurance is often possible only with restrictions. A late switch can also mean higher premiums.
It matters to us that a switch pays off for you in the long run. That is why we do not recommend a consultation when your answers already show that the conditions are rather unfavorable.
