Why this plan is in our selection
The Barmenia VHV1+ is the plan for doctors with the highest benefit level in our selection. For benefit coverage and claims handling we give the full score of 10 out of 10. The plan provides a single room, reimbursement above the maximum rates of the fee schedule, alternative practitioner benefits also above the fee directory and dental cover with no dental benefit limits at all. Health cures are also unusually well covered. The price for this level is clearly stated: the premium is at the upper end (3 out of 10 points), and there is a deductible of €330 per year on outpatient, inpatient and dental benefits. If you want the best range of benefits and consciously carry the higher premium, this is one of the strongest options for medical professionals.
01
Highest benefit level in the selection
We rate benefit coverage and claims handling at 10 out of 10 points each. The single room, reimbursement above the maximum rates of the fee schedule and full reimbursement for medical aids and private clinics make the VHV1+ the strongest plan for doctors in our selection.
02
Dental cover without dental benefit limits
Dental cover has no cap on amounts in the first years. Dental treatment and inlays are reimbursed at 100 percent, dentures, implants with bone grafting and orthodontics at 85 percent. If you need larger dental work early on, you are fully covered without waiting years.
03
Alternative practitioners above the fee directory
Naturopathic treatment by alternative practitioners is reimbursed also beyond the maximum amounts of the fee directory. For doctors who also rely on naturopathy, this is an advantage you rarely find.

Krankentagegeld is not part of the plan but can be added through the option right. As an employed doctor you need it from the end of continued pay during illness, as a doctor in private practice from the first day of incapacity for work. We add the right daily rate in our advice.

Who this plan suits
The VHV1+ suits doctors who want the best possible range of benefits and consciously carry the higher premium and the deductible. If you value a single room, dental cover without waiting years and strong naturopathy, this is the right place.
It is less suitable if the monthly premium is the priority or if you do not want a deductible. For these cases we show you cheaper alternatives with leaner benefits from our comparison in our advice.
Premium development at Barmenia: A plan is only as good as its calculation. We show the adjustments of past years transparently by year and plan.
Why is the VHV1+ rated so highly despite the deductible?
⌄
Our key figures for benefit coverage and claims handling are at 10 out of 10 points each, because the plan leaves hardly any gaps in its benefits. The deductible of €330 per year and the higher premium are the conscious price for this. Whether this balance suits you, we clarify in the plan analysis.
What does having no dental benefit limits mean?
⌄
Many plans cap dental benefits in the first years at fixed amounts. The VHV1+ does not have these dental benefit limits. Dental cover is therefore available in full from the start, which matters above all if larger dental work is due early on.
Does my employer contribute to this plan?
⌄
As an employed hospital doctor you receive the employer contribution of half your premium, up to the statutory maximum. As a doctor in private practice you can deduct the premiums from tax instead.
What happens if premiums rise?
⌄
Premium adjustments are part of how private health insurance works. What matters is their long-term size. You can find Barmenia's specific adjustments by year and plan in our overview of premium adjustments. If an increase is large, we check plan optimization with you.
How is our rating calculated?
⌄
The five key figures come from our ongoing plan analysis. They are based on the plan terms, the published premium histories and our experience with claims handling. The rating is our professional assessment, not a ranking by a testing institute.

Switching to private health insurance is probably not advisable for you.
From the age of 55, admission to private health insurance is often possible only with restrictions. A late switch can also mean higher premiums.
It matters to us that a switch pays off for you in the long run. That is why we do not recommend a consultation when your answers already show that the conditions are rather unfavorable.
