Why this plan is in our selection
The GUP is LKH's premium single plan, and for us it is one of the strongest plans on the market. Unlike with many competitors, you do not need a combination of main and top-up plans here, because the complete full cover is in one plan. For benefit coverage we give 9 out of 10 points, because the plan reimburses outpatient, inpatient and dental care above the maximum rates of the fee schedule and has no deductible. We rate LKH's premium history at 8 out of 10 points, as reliable above average. The special feature is the no-claims refund, which applies without a long waiting time, because new policyholders already receive the full level for the first claim-free year. We have to be honest about the starting premium, which we place at the upper end of the market with 4 out of 10 points. If you choose the GUP, you pay for benefits in the top group and not for a teaser price, and that is exactly why we recommend it in our plan analysis when benefits clearly come before price.
01
No-claims refund from the start of the contract
Most plans only allow the full refund after several claim-free years. With the GUP, new policyholders already receive the highest level for the first claim-free year, meaning 4 monthly premiums of performance-based refund plus a guaranteed lump-sum payment of €750. Regular policyholders start with 2 monthly premiums after the first year and rise to 4 monthly premiums after three years.

What you should know
!

!
The dental benefit limits cap dental treatment, dentures and orthodontics in the first three years at €1,250 to €5,000. If you plan larger dental work soon, you should factor this in.
!
The plan includes neither an option right for higher-level cover nor a simplified right to change plan. The statutory right to change plan under § 204 VVG still applies.
!
Krankentagegeld must be added separately and belongs in every calculation for employees.
!
A strong plan only pays off if your application is accepted cleanly. If you have pre-existing conditions, we recommend an anonymous risk enquiry before you apply.
Who this plan suits
The GUP suits employees above the JAEGJAEG · JahresarbeitsentgeltgrenzeThe annual income threshold in Germany. Employees who earn more than this per year may leave statutory health insurance and switch to private health insurance.More about JAEG → who put benefits before price and see their health insurance as a long-term decision. It is also one of the stronger options in our selection for families, from the premium-free Kindernachversicherung to a companion in hospital.
It is less suitable if the monthly premium is the deciding criterion or if you only want basic cover at the level of statutory health insurance. For these cases we show you better alternatives from our comparison in our advice.
Premium development at LKH: A plan is only as good as its calculation. We show the adjustments of past years transparently by year and plan.

Does my employer contribute to this plan?
⌄
Yes. As a privately insured employee you receive the employer contribution of half your premium, up to the statutory maximum. The contribution applies no matter which plan you choose.
Can I adjust the plan later?
⌄
Within LKH you can switch to similar plans using the right to change plan under § 204 VVG, and you keep your ageing reserves. However, the GUP has neither a simplified right to switch to higher-level plans nor an option right, so the benefit level should fit from the start.
What happens if premiums rise?
⌄
Premium adjustments are part of how private health insurance works. What matters is their long-term size. You can find LKH's specific adjustments by year and plan in our overview of premium adjustments. If an increase is large, we check plan optimization with you.

Switching to private health insurance is probably not advisable for you.
From the age of 55, admission to private health insurance is often possible only with restrictions. A late switch can also mean higher premiums.
It matters to us that a switch pays off for you in the long run. That is why we do not recommend a consultation when your answers already show that the conditions are rather unfavorable.
